BIG Points
Exposure does not improve learning outcomes.
It's all about implementation.

GOOD IDEA: Supply laminated A4 sheets with attitudes, attributes, TD themes,
As workshop leaders we must:
  • remain on top of current IB documentation
  • know the documents, quote the documents, use the documents
  • have at least basic knowledge of all three programmes
  • be aware of our roles as representatives of the IB
  • be conscious of what we say in our roles as workshop leaders as it may have repercussions
  • the Mission Statement should be addressed in every workshop
  • we may upload IB documents on private sites, wikis, websites but better not to as they change
  • do not share slides as things may be taken out of context and often have copyright
  • best to point to IB documents on OCC
  • foster an environment of fearlessness
  • reflection time built-in to your planning
  • Six "Disciplines" in the PYP, stand alone to be addressed later
  • expected to prepare your own presentations though other WSL's are usually willing to share

Difficult participants: Do not allow them to hijack
  • Let's follow that up at break time...
  • Make a point of going to them ASAP to try and build a bridge.

Video Thank You
What a great cohort!

Bittersweet...
The empty classroom

  • PK check is very important. Use a pre-WS survey and reference it in planning
  • In-school WS: Coordinate with the coordinator to inform planning based on school's needs (PD history, what sort of activities the Coordinator has done...)

Essential Elements for Effective Professional Development
  • Opportunity for putting it into practice (integrating theory and practice)
  • Balance of sitting/moving
  • Safe, challenging environment
  • Clear relevance
  • Planning informed by check for prior knowledge
  • Backed up by research (that you can cite)

JUST CAN'T ANSWER A QUESTION?!
Go to the documents (You should know these inside & out already) but if you cannot answer a question at a workshop go to:
  1. Field Representative
  2. Regional Office

CHANGE: WSL are going to be allowed to run IB approved workshops at their own schools (schools still need to apply for workshop and will be invoiced
  • We can attend one face-to-face regional workshop wit the registration fee waived every two years
  • WSL Resources are only to be used for officially authorized workshops
  • We may make our own resources, including the use of materials available on OCC, and offer PD

REGIS: The website about workshops. Find them, apply for them.

Action is not assessed, HOWEVER, it is the fundamental goal of an IB education and evidence which can be reported. This is not laid out as a point in the documentation.

Workshop Idea
Chuckers or Keepers: Which ones are.... Which ones are not?
Freyer Model

Citing authors on slide with more specification citation at the end works.

Diplomacy is paramount when leading workshops.

End with a video cool down.
